Newbie Kiteboard questions

Postby pfchurchill » Mon Dec 28, 2015 3:49 pm

I got one of my centerlines stuck around the bottom of a strut and tried and tried to get it freed. No luck, so I released the chicken loop and voila, it freed the line. It wasn't easy to get my chicken loop back together and hooked in. I asked a few folks that, if I merely unhooked, wouldn't the result be the same? There were differing opinions. I understand if the kite is under pressure and it's an emergency situation, you should release the chicken loop (and probably wouldn't be able to unhook with the pressure on the line), but if there is no tension and you are thinking of releasing, should just unhooking get the same result?

The short answer is NO.

Think about it - once unhooked you still have pressure on all of the lines  . Where is once you release the chicken loop all center lines are now loose and there is just a single line holding the kite. Make sense?
